Tales of Greybriar House

When I was sixteen years, old I went to my grandparents house and decided to look at antiques in the attic, but to my surprise I would find much more. I read through the diary I had found in the attic and could not believe the words I was reading. The diary was written by my great-great grandfather, Silas Martin. Silas was a slave on the Greybriar plantation owned by Hiram and Miriam Greybriar. Silas fell in love with another slave, Wisteria. Together they had dreams of running away to the north to be free, so they devised a plan which involved Wisteria seducing Master Hiram and getting their freedom papers signed. One thing led to another and Wisteria became pregnant with Master Hiram’s child, Silas demanded they she claim the baby as his, but Wisteria had unexpectedly fallen in love with Master Hiram. Wisteria expressed to Silas that she would tell Hiram about her pregnancy and confess her love, but little did she know Silas would never let that happen.

The next night Wisteria confessed her love and her pregnancy to Hiram which he reciprocated. They agreed to run away together in the morning but Miriam overheard upstairs. While Hiram and Miriam argued about the affair, Wisteria headed back to her room happily. Unexpectedly, Silas appeared incredibly angry that she had betrayed him. In a fit of rage he knocks her out and hangs her to make it appear as a suicide. He then flees North, but not before killing another slave, burning his body, and staging them as himself. The next morning Hiram awoke in confusion to two suicides whom he believed was Silas and Wisteria. Silas made it to freedom, established a family, and kept this murder a secret that it is until I found his diary.
